EWING, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Universal
Display Corporation (NASDAQ:PANL), enabling energy-efficient
displays and lighting with its UniversalPHOLED®
technology and materials, won Best in Show, Small Exhibit Category for
its borderless flexible OLED lighting panel at the 2013
Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium, Seminar,
and Exhibition.
“I am proud of our team’s ability to identify and develop a
high-performance, cost-effective encapsulation technology that addresses
a long-standing challenge for OLED packaging and can provide significant
added value to our customers’ development of OLED display and lighting
products as well as other thin-film electronic devices.”
The all-phosphorescent OLED lighting panel, built on a plastic substrate
system, uses Universal Display’s proprietary single hybrid-layer
UniversalBarrier™ encapsulation technology to meet the demanding
packaging requirements for OLED displays and lighting (see attached
photo). Universal Display’s encapsulation also provides complete
perimeter coverage for nearly edgeless or "bezel-less" packaging,
increasing the panel’s active area and creating myriad new product
design possibilities.
“We are honored to be recognized by the Society for Information Display
for our recent advances in and the demonstration of our proprietary
single-layer encapsulation technology in an OLED lighting panel. With
our UniversalPHOLED technology and materials in commercial use in OLED
displays and lighting, this innovation is an excellent example of one of
the OLED technologies under development at Universal Display,” said
Steven V. Abramson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Universal
Display. “I am proud of our team’s ability to identify and develop a
high-performance, cost-effective encapsulation technology that addresses
a long-standing challenge for OLED packaging and can provide significant
added value to our customers’ development of OLED display and lighting
products as well as other thin-film electronic devices.”
SID’s Best in Show awards highlight the “most significant new products
and technologies” exhibited during SID and are presented at the show’s
annual awards luncheon. Each year, an independent panel of display
experts selects the winners from the most significant and exciting
advances on the show floor.
