Universal Display Corporation (NASDAQ: PANL) is pleased to announce that its research partners, Dr. Stephen R. Forrest of the University of Michigan and Dr. Mark E. Thompson of the University of Southern California (USC), will receive the Jan Rajchman Prize tonight at the Society for Information Display (SID) 2006 International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition in San Francisco, California. The prize will be awarded at 8:00 p.m. PT tonight at the Awards Banquet in the Yerba Buena Ballroom at the San Francisco Marriot Hotel.
The prize, awarded by SID, recognizes Professors Forrest's and Thompson's outstanding scientific achievement in research on flat panel displays, specifically their pioneering research in the area of phosphorescent OLED technology.
Professor Forrest, Vice President for Research and a Professor of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Physics, and Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Michigan, and Professor Thompson, Professor and Chair of the Chemistry Department in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at USC, will be honored for their insight into the process of exciton generation and diffusion in OLEDs that led to the discovery of Universal Display's proprietary PHOLED(TM) phosphorescent OLED technology. PHOLED technology offers up to four times the efficiency of conventional OLED technology - a feature that is very important for today's battery-operated cell phones and other portable devices, as well as for tomorrow's large-area TVs and solid-state lighting products.
